Frequently Asked Questions
Is Spiritful Voices affiliated with any church or religious group?
No. We are an independent, non-profit corporation formed under the laws of the State of Oklahoma to bring choral music to our community in northwest Oklahoma City. Although many of our participants belong to various faiths and sing each week with a choir in their church or house of worship, Spiritful Voices is a community-based chorus comprised of participants from all walks of life, and is not associated with any church, faith, denomination or religious organization.
Does Spiritful Voices sing choral pieces other than religious ones?
Absolutely! In fact, although we do perform some sacred works, most of our season’s repertoire consists of secular choral pieces. Season after season, our participants consistently rank the variety of music in our repertoire as one of the top reasons for being a part of our community choir. We often perform pop, classical, contemporary, ballads, gospel, Broadway showtunes, patriotic, jazz, spiritual, swing, humorous and ethnic pieces. While some of our songs are a cappella pieces, many of our selections are accompanied by our talented pianists and even by our own instrumental ensembles consisting of various woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments. We do recognize that the vast majority of choral works published are religious-based, and many of these are truly beautiful compositions, but we make strong efforts each season to offer a variety of secular songs in our repertoire, as well. Of course, because most of our performances during our fall season occur during November and December, several selections in our fall repertoire are typically holiday-based, including both sacred and secular Christmas works.
How many singers are there in the choir?
This varies some from season to season, but typically there are 50 singers and as many as 11 instrumentalists who participate in our community chorus.
How many performances does the choir do each season?
Typically, our choir presents from five to seven concerts each season. These hour-long performances are usually scheduled on weekends, although some performances may be in the evenings on weekdays. During our fall season, our performances are usually scheduled from November to mid-December. In the spring, our performances are usually from mid-April through Memorial Day.
How much does Spiritful Voices charge for a performance?
We perform at community events, civic venues, retirement centers, benefits, and similar venues as a public service to enrich the cultural experiences of those in our community. Spiritful Voices does not charge our sponsors for our performances at these admission-free public events, although some of our sponsors do make voluntary donations to our group to defray our expenses and help continue our choir’s mission.
What is the typical voluntary donation amount given to Spiritful Voices for a concert?
This varies greatly depending on the sponsor's ability to contribute, size of the audience, budgetary constraints, etc. We've performed at functions where we've received no financial renumeration at all, and we have performed at venues that have generously provided us with corporate sponsorships of $2,500 to help continue our charitable organization's mission. However, on average, a typical donation for hosting a Spiritful Voices performance ranges from $200 to $500.
Can Spiritful Voices perform at a event we have scheduled next week?
No. Our tour schedule is typically finalized four-to-six months in advance. To avoid disappointment, it’s best to plan far in advance and submit a request for performance form at least six months to one year in advance of your desired date.
Can we request certain songs be sung at the performance of Spiritful Voices Community Choir that we’re sponsoring?
No, not typically. Because we spend thousands of dollars purchasing music each season, and because we rehearse our selected season’s repertoire for many weeks before touring, it’s simply not practical to accommodate special song requests for individual concerts. However, there are levels of corporate and individual sponsorships that do provide opportunities for music selection prior to the beginning of a season. Please see the "Corporate Sponsorships" page under our "Support Us" section of this website, or call 405-414-SING (7464) for more information.
We’d like to submit a Request for Performance form, but what are the chances that we'll be accepted to host a Spiritful Voices concert?
We love performing at new venues, so please submit your Request for Performance form as soon as possible! However, even assuming your organization otherwise meets our criteria for selection, we are still unfortunately only able to accept about one-third of all requests we receive each year. Our charitable organization’s limitations--such as our annual operating budget and the total number of available performance days on our touring calendar--prevent us from accommodating more performance requests each season. Remember, though, the earlier you plan and the earlier you submit your request to us helps increase your chances for acceptance, so
